The ACLU of Massachusetts’ Immigrant Protection Project (IPP) will be honored at the upcoming MICAH Awards in Springfield. At the event this weekend, IPP Coordinator Javier Luengo-Garrido will receive the Change Agent Award.
In his role with the ACLU of Massachusetts, Luengo-Garrido manages the Western Massachusetts IPP Call Center for immigrants and their families who need help navigating possible deportation proceedings. He coordinates pro bono bond representation, organizes immigration family law assistance, and advocates in local immigrant communities. Most recently, he played a central advocacy role in the passage of Springfield’s Welcoming Community Trust Ordinance.
Hosted annually by the Pioneer Valley Project, the MICAH Awards Dinner celebrates work for racial and economic justice in Springfield and Holyoke. This year, the 16th Annual MICAH Awards Dinner is set for February 2, 2019.
In awarding the Change Agent Award to Luengo-Garrido, the Pioneer Valley Project credits his leadership and the work of the ACLU of Massachusetts’ IPP in supporting and defending immigrant communities in Springfield and beyond.
