Call your state representative now. The trauma being inflicted on children and families at the border is horrific. But ICE isn’t only tearing apart families in faraway places. They are ripping apart families in the Commonwealth. While the Massachusetts legislature cannot intervene nationally, they have the power and responsibility to act locally. We cannot watch while families are destroyed. We must act. If you know the name of your representative, call the MA House Switchboard at (617) 722-2000 and ask to be connected. Learn who your state representative is Call Script: Hi, my name is __________ and I live in [city or town]. I’m calling to urge Rep. _________ to do everything in [his/her] power to make sure basic protections for immigrants are included in the final budget legislation. Massachusetts can’t stop the federal government from tearing apart immigrant families, but we should make sure we’re not contributing to the cruelty. We need to keep police from asking about immigration status, stop sheriffs from acting as ICE agents, and make sure people are informed about their rights before being questioned by ICE. Will Rep. _________ please ask Speaker DeLeo and Chairman Sanchez to make sure these protections end up in the final 2019 budget? Thank you!
