Boston Mayor Michelle Wu today announced a Boston Police commissioner search committee.
Carol Rose, executive director of the ACLU of Massachusetts, released the following statement in response:
“The ACLU applauds Mayor Wu for her commitment to achieving needed police reforms. The Mayor and this search committee have a huge challenge on their hands: Changing the culture of this department will not be easy. But Boston now has the opportunity to identify a police commissioner who is committed to transparency, accountability, and public safety for all people. We look forward to partnering with the City and community members to continue the necessary work of ending longstanding racial disparities in policing, providing meaningful oversight and accountability over the police, and transforming Boston’s public safety systems so they center justice, equity, and healing."
