Verified signatures for ballot initiative proposals were submitted today to the Secretary of the Commonwealth’s office. Ballot proposals seeking to restrict abortion and voting rights did not meet the certified signature requirement, and will not appear on the 2022 ballot.
Carol Rose, executive director of the ACLU of Massachusetts, today released the following statement in response:
“Massachusetts voters have spoken: We reject efforts to push equality and freedom out of reach. Across the country, anti-abortion and anti-democracy activists are trying to undermine our democracy and weaken our civil rights and liberties. These extremists would make it harder for some people—Black people, immigrants, low-income people, women, LGBTQ people, young people, and more—to make fundamental decisions about our health, our families, the future of our communities, and our democracy itself. As a multi-issue organization, the ACLU will continue to work to ensure that access to reproductive health care and the right to vote are protected for all people in the Commonwealth and across the nation.”
